Tuesday Memes!

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted at The Broke and the Bookish
This week's topic is: Top Ten Books When You Need Something Light & Fun. Here are some of my picks (in no particular order).

1. The Shopaholic Series by Sophie Kinsella (these books are just fun)

 2. Bridget Jones' Diary by Helen Fielding

3. The Harry Potter series (while these books are not always light, they are a lot of fun)

4. Meant to Be by Lauren Morrill

5. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

6. Between the Lines by Jodi Picoult and Samantha Van Leer

 7. Chocolate Chocolate by Frances Park and Ginger Park (an auto-biography of two sisters and their amazing chocolate shop in Washington, D.C.)

8. 84, Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff (every book lover should read this quick read)

9. The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery

10. Marrying Up by Wendy Holden (Another rom com type book set in Britain. This one is tons of fun!)

What are your light and fun picks?

First Chapter First Paragraph is hosted by Bibliophile by the Sea

"Olivia opened her hazel eyes, her vision still blurred from the night before. She glanced at the clock lighting up the hotel room: 7:03. She'd been working campaigns long enough to understand that an extra chair beside the bed in a hotel room in Iowa made that room a presidential suite. She thought the bed felt a little softer than the one in her own room, which, as she connected the dots, she realized was downstairs. Her room barely allowed space for a bed, let alone a chair. And there was no way she could have overslept on that rock hard mattress. This room was painted dull beige and above the bed was the obligatory landscape portrait that hung in every hotel on the road, the painting of the idyllic view that should have been outside the window but was not."

Would you keep reading?

  2. sounds like an interesting start, I'd have to read more before deciding whether or not I'd read it. I've never read Bridget Jones Diary, but I love the movie. kelley—the road goes ever ever on

  3. I've seen HP on lots of lists today, which is funny because I never really thought of them as "light" reads. But, there ARE lots of light, funny moments in the books to balance out all the dark, dangerous stuff. Good pick!

  4. Sounds like she's finding some trouble. I hate the Shopaholic book, but love Bridget Jones. Also love HP. If you liked The Elegance of the Hedgehog, try Bitter Almonds. Oh, and I think my novel, The Summer of France, is a fun, quick read. Free Friday and Saturday on Amazon. Here's My First Paragraph meme

Hi! Welcome to A Bookish Affair. If you leave a comment, I will try to either reply here or on your site!

As of 6/6/2011, this book is now an awards free zone. While I appreciate the awards, I would rather stick to reviewing more great books for you than trying to fill the requirements.
