Booking Through Thursday: Category

This week, Booking Through Thursday asks: Of the books you own, what’s the biggest category/genre? Is this also the category that you actually read the most?

Most of my book collection is probably historical fiction. I'm a huge history buff so I love just about anything having to do with history. While I'm not adverse to non-fiction books, fiction books are the ones that I go to when I want to relax. Also, I try to only buy books that I think I might read again and historical fiction books usually fit that bill!

What say you?

  1. Oh, interesting! I'm not really keen on historical fiction but I agree, I prefer fiction to non-fiction as well. :)

Here's my Booking Through Thursday post for this week.

  2. I rarely read historical fiction, but when I do I'm always surprised that I love the genre. Surprised because I don't read so much of it.

I haven't quite figured out how that works yet...

And I agree about books I'll want to read again; though I have a tendency to indiscriminately clear out the bargain bins and thrift stores.

  3. Oh, I love historical fiction! I would lay money on me getting reminded of all the different genres I love as I read these comments.

  4. I would say definitely historical romances--but then I have a lot of mysteries and thrillers as well!!!

  6. I like historical fiction too but I don't really sort it into a category of its own in my own reading.

  8. I haven't read much historical fiction, but given my love of history I should probably give it more of a try.

    Great topic!

  9. I have lots of historical fiction, too, though I'd say my bookshelves are collapsing mostly because of women's and literary fiction!

  10. My shelves are pretty eclectic - but historical fiction is heavily represented! I agree, hist. fiction books are great comfort reads :)

  11. My biggest category is mystery (I still need to get my BTT post up). I really stopped by to let you know I saw your comment about the TBR pile over at No Page Left Behind and wanted to tell you that there's a least one Support Your Local Library Challenge out there if your major TBR source is the library. Here's one: http://bumpsintheroad1.blogspot.com/2011/10/2012-support-your-local-library.html#. And in the past there has been another one as well.

  12. Ha! I tend to get rid of genre books faster, so my bookshelves make me look like an intellectual. And I never thought about this until now.

    Oy.

Hi! Welcome to A Bookish Affair. If you leave a comment, I will try to either reply here or on your site!

As of 6/6/2011, this book is now an awards free zone. While I appreciate the awards, I would rather stick to reviewing more great books for you than trying to fill the requirements.
