Booking Through Thursday: Branching Out

It's been awhile since I've participated in Booking Through Thursday. Click the link and join the fun.

Here's this week's question: What genre do you avoid reading and why?

If you've ever looked at my review policy, you'll notice that I list a few genres that I don't care to read. Here's why:

Mysteries: I really hate when I figure out what's going on before the book ends.

Thrillers/ Horror: I'm very jumpy by nature. Thrillers make me even more jumpy. It's not a good mix.

Self-help: Some of these books are just so fluffy. I'm not a fan.

Mysteries are not my favorite but I did find this funny.

What genres will you not read? Why?

  1. I agree with you. Thrillers scare me, and I can't sleep. I don't read much mystery and Self-help books don't interest me.

  2. Oh lord, self-help books make me desperate! Why would you read them? I listed that I don't accept paranormal, but they keep on sending them to me! Thanks for sharing :)

  6. Some self-help books are really fluffy. They can be frustrating to read.

  8. I can't rule anything out. I don't read horror but enjoy Dean Koontz, Stephen King and a couple of others. I use to not be a fan of nonfiction but some of the best books I read last year were nf.

    maybe I just haven't read enough? ;-)

    1. I think it would be nice to be able to read just about anything though!

  9. Haha love that picture! I love thrillers, but I did notice that the most recent read I read made me jumpy... I went to bed one night after my husband had already fallen asleep and even though he was right there I still kept the light on, LOL!!

    1. Hah, I would be the same way. I'm the one that has to wake my husband up every time I hear a weird noise at night. Luckily, I'm a really deep sleeper so I don't hear too many weird noises!

  10. I'm with you on most of these books. I definitely don't like horror/thrillers because I prefer to enjoy my reading, not get creeped out/have bad dreams/become paranoid. And for some reason few mysteries really do it for me. They seem so formulaic.

Hi! Welcome to A Bookish Affair. If you leave a comment, I will try to either reply here or on your site!

As of 6/6/2011, this book is now an awards free zone. While I appreciate the awards, I would rather stick to reviewing more great books for you than trying to fill the requirements.
