Today, I am very excited to take part in Terri Giuliano Long's Meet the Family blog hop. We're talking all about our family traditions around the holidays.
Family has always been a huge part of my life. Both of my parents have always made sure that my sisters and I know the importance of family. I am lucky enough to be able to get to see my family a lot more than a lot of people do. Even though we get to see everyone frequently, there is nothing more that I like than getting together with my crazy family around the holidays. Christmas is my favorite holiday to spend with my family!
Since I got married, Phil and I have split Christmas between our two families. We spend Christmas Eve and Morning with my family in Maryland. We have Christmas Dinner with Phil's family in Pennsylvania. It is chaotic but so much fun to get a chance to see everyone.
My grandparents started a tradition when my mom and her sisters were little that presents were opened Christmas Eve and then Santa Claus presents were opened on Christmas morning. My parents adopted that tradition and now even though my sisters and I are in our 20s, that Santa Claus still brings us presents on Christmas Morning and we open the rest of the presents on Christmas Eve.
We always have the same dinner for Christmas Eve. We have meat fondue and it is absolutely wonderful! Dinner is usually loud and festive no matter how few or how many people my parents have at their house. The craziness is constant but I would not trade it for the world.
This is my parents' cat, Princess, summing up the craziness of the aftermath at my family's house. |

I love your family traditions, especially that Santa still brings you presents! My sister and I got presents from Santa well into our twenties too. Fun!
ReplyDeleteOur family gets together at my brother-in-law's house. Santa makes sure everyone gets something, even guests that show up at the last minute. Santa has one heck of an emergency gift drawer. Happy holidays and hop.
ReplyDeleteOne of my mother's traditions from my childhood backfired--she never, ever allowed us to put the baby Jesus in the Nativity set until Christmas Eve, no matter how much I begged. Now, I collect Nativity sets and keep most of them out year-round!
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely post, Meg! It's so wonderful that you're able to visit your family and Phil's family - like having Christmas Day twice over! Thanks for taking part in the hop!
ReplyDeleteMy best,
Terri
Lovely post. It's lovely the way traditions get handed down the generations.
