Why You're Reading This Book:

  • You're a fiction fan.
  • You're a fan of foodie fiction.
  • You're looking for a light read.
 What's the Story?:

From Goodreads.com: "Having grown up in an apartment above her Grandpa Joe's little bakery, Issy Randal has always known how to make something sweet. She's much better at baking than she is at filing, so when she's laid off from her desk job, Issy decides to open up her own little caf . But she soon learns that her piece-of-cake plan will take all her courage and confectionary talent to avert disaster. Funny and sharp, Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe is about how life might not always taste like what you expect, but there's always room for dessert!"

My Two Cents:

"Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe" is the story of Issy, a woman who unceremoniously loses her job and decides to take her career in a completely different direction. This book sort of made me want to drop everything and run off to London and open up a cute little cafe (would that not be absolutely amazing?). This book is perfect when you're looking for a light read (this would definitely be a great vacation pick since tis the season for summer vacation). It's also perfect for my fellow anglophiles who want a little bit of armchair traveling thrown in the mix.

This book started a little bit slowly but once the book got to where Issy actually opens up the shop and then the book flies. I found myself wanting more (even though this book is over 400 pages). The book is mostly about Issy trying to make the cupcake store work and about all of the people who help her to do it. I really liked Issy. She makes some silly decisions after being blinded but what she thinks is love but I really loved reading about her.

This book was a lot of fun. I loved the setting. London is one of my very favorite places to read about so this book was a real treat! According to Goodreads, this book is marked as book #1 so I am really hoping for a sequel.
