First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intros
My intro today comes from Indiscretion by Charles Dubow.
"Eleven in the morning. The backyards of houses rumble by. Here and there an above ground pool, discarded patio furniture, rusting bicycles. Barking dogs tied with ropes. Dry lawns. The sky is a pale blue, the heat of early summer just beginning to unfurl itself. Every fifteen minutes or so the train stops. More people get on than off."

This really grabbed me. The short clipped sentences interspersed with the longer lovely sentence "The sky is a pale blue, the heat of early summer just beginning to unfurl itself." I might just have to check it out!

ReplyDeleteI do like a narrative that unfurls in short sentences, pulling me quickly into the scenes, the settings, and the emotion. Kind of intense in the flow of it.
