It's been awhile since I've participated in Booking Through Thursday. Click the link and join the fun.
Here's this week's question: What genre do you avoid reading and why?
If you've ever looked at my review policy, you'll notice that I list a few genres that I don't care to read. Here's why:
Mysteries: I really hate when I figure out what's going on before the book ends.
Thrillers/ Horror: I'm very jumpy by nature. Thrillers make me even more jumpy. It's not a good mix.
Self-help: Some of these books are just so fluffy. I'm not a fan.
Mysteries are not my favorite but I did find this funny. |
What genres will you not read? Why?
I agree with you. Thrillers scare me, and I can't sleep. I don't read much mystery and Self-help books don't interest me.
ReplyDeleteHaving a book terrify you is the worst!!!
DeleteOh lord, self-help books make me desperate! Why would you read them? I listed that I don't accept paranormal, but they keep on sending them to me! Thanks for sharing :)

Paranormal is not normally my favorite either. I've found some good ones though!
DeleteI don't mind psychological thrillers...gory reads I'll avoid...lol; I also don't like werewolves or vampires.
ReplyDeleteHere's MY THURSDAY MEMES POST
Ugh, I'm definitely not into the gory!!!
DeleteI love crime fiction! Period!!!
ReplyDeleteHere is my BTT post!
I haven't read much!
DeleteI like thrillers and mysteries but not horror.

Some self-help books are really fluffy. They can be frustrating to read.

I fully agree. I hate the touchy/feely-ness of them!
DeleteHorror books make me jumpy too, I agree.

I so hate that feeling!
DeleteI can't rule anything out. I don't read horror but enjoy Dean Koontz, Stephen King and a couple of others. I use to not be a fan of nonfiction but some of the best books I read last year were nf.
ReplyDeletemaybe I just haven't read enough? ;-)
I think it would be nice to be able to read just about anything though!
DeleteHaha love that picture! I love thrillers, but I did notice that the most recent read I read made me jumpy... I went to bed one night after my husband had already fallen asleep and even though he was right there I still kept the light on, LOL!!
ReplyDeleteHah, I would be the same way. I'm the one that has to wake my husband up every time I hear a weird noise at night. Luckily, I'm a really deep sleeper so I don't hear too many weird noises!
DeleteI'm with you on most of these books. I definitely don't like horror/thrillers because I prefer to enjoy my reading, not get creeped out/have bad dreams/become paranoid. And for some reason few mysteries really do it for me. They seem so formulaic.
ReplyDeleteI think that may be my issue with mysteries too!
