Booking Through Thursday: In Public
This week's question is: Do you carry books with you when you’re out and about in the world? And, do you ever try to hide the covers?
Guys, this week was my anniversary (my first anniversary) so my husband and I went out to a really, really tasty restaurant (if you're ever in DC, it's called Founding Farmers and you most go there. Your tummy will thank you!!!). After we finished dinner, we were making our way back to the Metro station and I mentioned that my back hurt. My husband asked me to list everything that I had in my bag. I listed all of the essentials that were in my bag and then he told me "It's probably that hardback book and your Kindle." True, true but does he really expect me not to carry a book of some sort to work??? Not happening, dear husband. It's just not happening.
As for hiding the covers, I don't. I think I have pretty decent taste in books so I'm always proud to show what I'm reading. One world that my Kindle opened up for me is romance novels 'cause sometimes you just need a story with a little steam and a happy ending. I think if I read paper versions of those books, some of the covers would definitely have to be hidden!!!
What say you?

I always have my iPhone with me if nothing else. And it has both the Nook app and the Kindle app, both loaded with freebie books. So yeah, I always have a book or two with me. And of course, I never have to worry about hiding covers with the iPhone. People think I'm texting or checking email.
ReplyDeleteRomance novels, especially fantasy romances, seem to have the most..."interesting" covers! As for me, I sometimes hide a cover if I wish to avoid questions about the book interrupting my reading. Sometimes I read books around people who would object -- like Harry Potter around really paranoid Christians, heh.
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny. I listed everything that was in my bag this week. Everything I Carry With Me
ReplyDeleteHa ha, I have the same issue with my handbag - far too many things in there.
ReplyDeleteI hide covers, not because of embarrassing titles or covers, but to keep people from approaching me while I'm reading. Not a fan of that.
Yep, a book definitely goes with me, hardcover most of the time. well not to church. i just won't do that one.
ReplyDeletei heard romance novels have soared since e-readers came out! people can now read their sappy love stories in public and not be judged!

Happy anniversary! And I mostly never really tried to hide covers, oh well. I have a nook color now, so it helps. I read mostly ya too!

I always carry a book with me. Check out my full answer for this week's Booking Through Thursday. Happy belated Anniversary.
ReplyDeleteHappy anniversary! I read romance books on my e-reader all the time, lol.
ReplyDeleteI pretty much only read on my kindle, which is great because no one has to see the cover. Im not ashamed of what I read, but it is always really annoying when someone sees the cover of your book and wants a "scene by scene" summary of the book.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I'm also guilty of carrying around huge books and then complaining that my bag's too heavy! But you just know that the ONE DAY you don't take your book, you'll be stood in a queue for hours with nothing to read :)
ReplyDelete@lsl_scrapper I haven't tried reading on my iphone. Do you have trouble reading on it for long periods of time? It just seems so small!
ReplyDelete@smellincoffee Good point! I like hiding my book covers when I don't want to be interrupted as well!
ReplyDelete@gautami tripathy Yes! You never know when you're going to get stuck waiting someplace.
ReplyDelete@fivealarmbookreviews.com My bag is a very scary place!
ReplyDelete@FBT Yes, I do hide my book covers if I don't want to be bothered!
ReplyDelete@Sidne,the BCR Yes, that's one place you don't need a book!
ReplyDelete@Trish I so believe it!
ReplyDelete@Tia Thank you!
ReplyDelete@Lori Thank you!
ReplyDelete@RK Thank you!
ReplyDelete@celawerdblog Ugh, I hate being bothered when I'm reading!
ReplyDelete@Hanna Exactly! It's best to be prepared!
