Why You're Reading This Book:

  • You're a fiction fan.
  • You like a bit of romance.
What's the Story?:

From Goodreads.com: "An unforgettable tale of love, loss and second chances.

Second Chance Grill is the prequel to Treasure Me, 2012 Next Generation Indie Awards Finalist, which The Midwest Book Review calls “A riveting read for those who enjoy adventure fiction, highly recommended.”

Dr. Mary Chance needs a sabbatical from medicine to grieve the loss of her closest friend. But when she inherits a struggling restaurant in Liberty, Ohio she isn’t prepared for Blossom Perini. Mary can’t resist falling for the precocious preteen—or the girl’s father. The bond they forge will transform all their lives and set in motion an outpouring of love that spreads across America.

Welcome back to Liberty, where the women surrounding the town’s only restaurant are as charming as they are eccentric."

My Two Cents:

As the synopsis says, "Second Chance Grill" is the prequel to "Treasure Me," a book that I read and thoroughly enjoyed in 2011. I really enjoyed getting to see a little more background on the Second Chance Grill and the little town of Liberty. I love, love, love the setting of Liberty. Liberty is the quintessential small town. Everyone knows everyone. Anyone new is an automatic curiosity. It's a cute town where even though everyone seems to be into everyone's issues, they all also want to help each other.

I also really loved the characters in this book, especially Mary and Blossom. "Second Chance Grill" focuses on Mary, who comes to Liberty to escape her past, and the people that she meets in this small town. She throws herself into running the Second Chance Grill and managing all of the larger than life characters that make their homes in and around the grill. I really felt for Mary because even though she's running away to Liberty to escape from some rough events in her life, she comes to Liberty and ends up getting tied into some more hard issues but she doesn't run. She's ready to tackle whatever comes to face her new family.

Blossom is also another great character. She's young but she is incredibly smart and precocious. I love characters that you can really get behind and root for and Blossom most definitely falls into that category.

"Second Chance Grill" is really the story of second chances, love, and a little bit of hope for the good things in life. Each of the characters in this book seems to be struggling with something different We all know that some of these things can be hard to find. Nolfi spins a great tale that you will want to sink into.

  3. I like fiction set in small towns, where you get to know the community and this sounds adorable! I like that all the characters are flawed. Awesome review!
