I liked that Hetty acted as a really interesting comparison to Sarah. I love, love, love author's notes and found the one in this book to shed a lot of light on the various choices that the author made in the book. I loved getting that insight!!!
Meg @ A Bookish Affairhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15634397276714805455noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8091584537195738879.post-40491654951333116332014-12-19T07:44:34.136-05:002014-12-19T07:44:34.136-05:00Hope you get to it soon!!!Hope you get to it soon!!!Meg @ A Bookish Affairhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15634397276714805455noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8091584537195738879.post-72258554122148226202014-12-17T18:12:09.078-05:002014-12-17T18:12:09.078-05:00I hadn't heard of the Grimke sisters either, b...I hadn't heard of the Grimke sisters either, before reading this book. I was enthralled by the story, even more so knowing that they had really lived, that these experiences (or facsimiles of this story) were true. WOW. powerful stuff.Anne@HeadFullofBookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01069558006454986084noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8091584537195738879.post-30525554084222285152014-12-17T09:02:12.738-05:002014-12-17T09:02:12.738-05:00I read this, too. Although this is a story that involves two historical characters, sisters who were abolitionists and who also spoke up about women's rights, the author chose to devote half of the book to the childhoods of one of the sisters and her slave. Many readers don't realize that the slave is fiction. The book didn't grab me the way books should until its second part. Many of the other characters in the second half really did exist.

The author wrote an interesting Afterward in which she explains what is fact and what is fiction. techeditorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01713987832589573174noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8091584537195738879.post-24909885746109103792014-12-17T08:40:46.023-05:002014-12-17T08:40:46.023-05:00This one has been on my TBR list for a while.
