    1. I really, really liked it. I'm a historical fiction junkie!

  2. Too many to even remember! I enjoyed the Shoemaker's Wife too. I also liked the ARCs of The Shadow of the Banyan and a mystery The Fear Artist, both to be published in July 2012. I can recommend Ninepins, the Storytelling Animal, and An Unexpected Guest, all books reviewed. Hope you will stop by!

    1. I definitely want to read The Shadow of the Banyan. I've heard really good things about it!

  3. I just reread The Secret Garden for Sheila's (Book Journey) read along and loved it so much. There's nothing like a great children's book, and I often find I get more from them as an adult than I did as a child. Also, Adriana Trigiani makes me laugh...but this one of hers doesn't look funny as much as serious.

    1. Yes! I really had forgotten how much I loved The Secret Garden. I think as an adult, you pick up so much more than you did when you were a child!

  6. I love that The Secret Garden is on your list! The Secret Garden is one of the first books I read by myself when I was a little girl. I've loved it ever since then and used to read it several times a year. I own several different copies of this classic and, although I know the story by heart, I read it every year or so!

Your review for The Shoemaker's Wife was terrific. I'm going to read your other's now!

  7. Really need to get to The Shoemaker's Wife soon! Every time it appears on a blog, I remind myself to move it up the ol' TBR... but it never ends...

  8. I read The Secret Garden a few days ago and really loved it! I'm not usually one for older books, but The Secret Garden is definitely one of my older favorites. =)

    Great list!

  9. As someone who is featuring older books right now in a new feature, it really just makes me smile to see The Secret Garden on this list :) Really!

My favorite book thus far as been "red Dragon" and I lost it before I could finish it. I will buy another.

    1. Ugh, that's a bummer. I'm always a little overly attentive to not misplacing my book while I'm reading it. That's the worst feeling!

Hi! Welcome to A Bookish Affair. If you leave a comment, I will try to either reply here or on your site!

As of 6/6/2011, this book is now an awards free zone. While I appreciate the awards, I would rather stick to reviewing more great books for you than trying to fill the requirements.
